November 2016 Update

Dear Friend of the Palatine Concert Band,

For those of you who were able to attend, thank you so much for joining us on November 6 for the downbeat to the Band’s 62nd consecutive concert season.  We had a great time playing Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet – it’s a demanding and challenging piece.  We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did, and we’re very thankful you were with us to celebrate Shakespeare & Love.

We’re all getting ready to kick off the Holiday Season.  As I write this, Thanksgiving is up next and the Holiday Season of many different faiths and traditions follows in December.  For Christians, Advent begins November 27 with Christmas on December 25; for those of Jewish faith, Hanukkah begins December 6; for many African-Americans, Kwanzaa begins December 26.  These days have many different meanings, but we try to celebrate them with family and friends as an additional way of making time special.  We hope this will be a special time for you as well.

Our annual Holiday Concert is right around the corner as the Holiday Season begins – Friday, December 2 at 7:00pm at The Cutting Hall Performing Art Center in Palatine.  We have some wonderful Holiday treats on the program for you including Once In Royal David’s City, Gaunlett, arr Sparke; The Eighth Candle, Reisteter; Christmas March, Goldman, arr. Rogers; and Russian Christmas Music, Reed.  We will also perform a few of your traditional Christmas favorites; give you an opportunity to sing-a-long, and of course, a visit from Santa is planned for those young and young-at-heart.

Looking into 2017, our director, Dr. Rick Lowe, is building our future concert repertoire around two distinct and interesting themes.  The Winter Concert will be centered on our interpretation of the” British Invasion,” and the Spring Concert will focus on “Fanfares and Classics”.  Mark your calendars now for these special programs.

Sunday, March 19, 2017 - 3:30pm, Palatine High School (1111 N Rohlwing Road)
Sunday, April 30, 2017 - 3:30pm, Cutting Hall

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.  Children 12 and under are free, and tickets are available online at http://www.cuttinghall.org or at the Cutting Hall Box Office.  Additional information about the band can be found online at www.palatineconcertband.org, and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/palatineconcertband.

As always, we very much appreciate your support and thank you for your ongoing commitment to making our concerts a special opportunity to enjoy great music.  Make your plans now to kick off your Holiday Season with us on December 2 in Cutting Hall at 7:00pm, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Warmest Holiday greetings from our family to yours,

October 2016 Update

Dear Friend of the Palatine Concert Band,

Welcome back!   We hope you had a great summer and are ready to join us for the kick-off of the Palatine Concert Band’s 62nd season performing in Palatine and the Northwest suburbs.  Last year will be tough to beat after the world premiere of Daniel French’s Tango, de Antaño a Hogaño which helped us celebrate the Band’s 60th consecutive year.  However, Dr. Rick Lowe has planned  this season’s repertoire around a series of musical themes intended to draw your attention to some wonderful subjects at each concert during the year.

The theme of our first concert is Shakespeare & Love, and the program has been designed around the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.  As we cannot easily take you to Stratford-upon-Avon to join the festivities, we’ll transport you there vicariously on a musical journey.    Our first concert is coming up rather quickly - Sunday, November 6, 2016 at 3:30 pm in The Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 East Wood Street in Palatine.

Our musical tribute to Shakespeare will include the following:  Othello (I. Prelude (Venice)), Alfred Reed; Kiss Me Kate, Cole Porter/John Moss; Romeo and Juliet, P. I. Tchaikovsky/Mark Hindsley ; Prelude from Richard III, William Walton/Paul Noble;  A Gershwin Tribute to Love, George & Ira Gershwin/ Brent Heisinger;  and Music from Rent, Jonathan Larson/Jay Bocook.

For the remainder of the indoor concert season, we will perform three concerts leading up to next summer:
  • Friday, December 2, 2016, 7:00pm – Annual Holiday Concert
  • Sunday, March 19, 2017, 3:30pm – Winter Concert * (Palatine High School Auditorium)
  • Sunday, April 30, 2017, 3:30pm – Spring Concert

Most indoor concerts take place at The Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 East Wood Street in Palatine. The exception this season is our March 2017 concert, which will be at Palatine High School. If you are able, feel free to download our concert flyer, and post it at businesses in your area

As always, we very much appreciate your support and thank you for your ongoing commitment to making our concerts a special opportunity to enjoy great music.

Warmly,

May 2016 Update

Dear Friend of the Palatine Concert Band,

For those of you who were able to attend our concert on Sunday May 1st, thank you so much for coming out and sharing your Sunday afternoon with us – we had a blast!  The music was energizing with a spicy, Spanish flavor and was a little unpredictable at times.  Although it was demanding of the musicians, it was full of great vitality and excitement!   We hope you found it a great way to cap off the year, and lead into our summer concert series.  We are so grateful to you for making our 2015-2016 season a rousing success.

Our summer season is packed with plenty of chances to hear the PCB in an outdoor venue at a great price – free.  These are wonderful opportunities to pack a picnic basket with your favorite food and beverage – and let the music wash over you in the warmth of the summer.   Continuing under the direction of Dr. Rick Lowe, the band has been busy working on the summer program, building a repertoire of Americana, show tunes, and all-around fun music.   Our summer concert dates begin pretty quickly:
