July 2015 Update

Dear Friend of the Palatine Band,

We hope you had an opportunity to join us for our first summer concert in Palatine in June.  It was a delightful evening, and the music was superb.   Thanks for your support!

We’re now pushing into the concentrated part of our summer schedule.  This week, we’ll make our annual sojourn to the North Shore for our concerts centered on the July 4thHoliday.  We’ll focus our music on an all-American program for July 3rd and 4th – with many of your favorites including marches, show-tunes, patriotic Americana, and capped by a wonderful arrangement of Antonin Dvorak’s From the New World (Finale).  For both July 3rd and 4th, our concert will be followed by fireworks in Wilmette and Evanston.

Here’s the remainder of our summer concert season:

Friday, July 3, 7:30 pm                 Gillson Park, Wilmette
Saturday, July 4, 7:30 pm             Lagoon at Dawes Park, Evanston
Wednesday, July 8, 8:00 pm         Fred P. Hall Amphitheater
Wednesday, July 29, 8:00 pm       Fred P. Hall Amphitheater

The outdoor concerts are free, and we hope you can make plans to spend some time with us this summer.  Grab a lawn chair or blanket, a picnic basket and your favorite beverage.  We hope to see you on one of these warm summer evenings.

As always, you can find more information about the Band at www.palatineconcertband.org, or at www.facebook.com/palatineconcertband. You can also find out more about the Palatine Park District summer schedule of events at www.palatineparks.org.

We know the holidays are a busy time for everyone. Bring your family and friends, and take time to enjoy some live music in a great setting under the stars.  We are grateful for your support and hope to see you soon!

May 2015 Update

Dear Friend of the Palatine Concert Band,

We hope you were able to join us for the final concert of the indoor season with our featured composition, Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, and our guest narrator Carl Grapentine.  Thank you all for coming, and thank you Carl, for an inspiring presentation. The kick-off to our summer season is just around the corner.  Our first concert of this busy, outdoor season is Wednesday June 10th at 8:00pm, at the Fred P. For the summer concert season, the band will be under the direction of Ronald Polancich.  Mr. Polancich is the former director of the Palatine Concert Band and will take the podium in place of Rick Lowe who is on a leave of absence during the summer to undergo heart surgery in early June.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Rick for a speedy recovery, and expect he will rejoin the band in the fall.

Finally, be sure to mark your calendar for the remainder of our summer concert dates.  Including the June 10th concert, we have three Wednesday evenings scheduled at the Fred Hall Amphitheater in Palatine and our two special engagements in Wilmette and Evanston on July 3 and 4

2014 Holiday Season Update

Dear Friend of the Palatine Concert Band,

I hope you were able to join us for our first concert of the season on November 9.  We had a great audience and we thank you for your attendance and your patronage.  We had fabulous support from some of our local high school students, and we appreciate that commitment from the local community.  It’s gotten pretty cool (okay cold!) in Chicagoland in the past week, and it’s time to move forward into winter.

Our annual Holiday Concert will come up quickly on Friday December 5, at 7:00pm in Cutting Hall, located at 150 E. Wood St., Palatine, IL.  Music of the season, appropriate for all ages will be performed and for the children, we’ve arranged for a special visitor from the North Pole.  This is a terrific and marvelous holiday activity for the whole family!

We have some wonderful tunes planned for you - both for your listening pleasure and participatory sing-alongs!  Our lineup includes favorites such as : A Charlie Brown Christmas, Vince Guaraldi; A Christmas Celebration, Kenny Bierschenk; Bells, Ian McDougall; Rhapsody for Hanukkah, Stephen Bulla; Christmas “Pop’” Sing-a-Long; and The Holly and the Ivy, arranged by Chip Davis (Mannheim Steamroller), as well as a few others.

Looking towards 2015, we’ll have two additional concerts throughout the indoor season leading up to next summer:
  • Sunday, March 15, 2015, 3:30pm – Winter Concert
  • Sunday, May 3, 2015, 3:30pm – Spring Concert

As a reminder, at the May 3, 2015 concert, we will perform Aaron Copland’s A Lincoln Portrait, narrated by WFMT radio personality Carl Grapentine.  This is certain to be a classic and you won’t want to miss it!   Mark your calendars now for these future concert dates.

I’ve also included a copy of our concert flyer which you can download here. If you know of a neighborhood business that allows you to post a flyer, please feel free to do so.

All indoor concerts take place at Cutting Hall, 150 East Wood Street in Palatine. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors, and children 12 and under are free.  Tickets are available online at http://www.cuttinghall.org/palatineconcertband.htm or at the Cutting Hall Box Office. Additional information about the band can be found online atwww.palatineconcertband.org, and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/palatineconcertband.
