November 2014 Update

Dear Friend of the Palatine Concert Band,

Welcome to the 2014 – 2015 Palatine Concert Band season!  We’re very excited to kick off a new year after a very successful summer tour of Palatine and the North Shore.  There’s music all around you – all you need to do is listen!  High school and college bands in the football stadiums, professional groups abound throughout the Chicagoland area, and young people in middle grades picking up their instrument for the very first time – an exciting time indeed!  How can you pass up the opportunity to listen to live music!

It’s already November, and our first concert of the year is close at hand – Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 3:30 pm in Cutting Hall, 150 East Wood Street in Palatine.  The band has been hard at work, and we’ve got a great program planned for you.

Our concert program will include the following selections plus few others: Hungarian March by Hector Berlioz; Colonial Song by Percy Grainger; After “The Thunderer” by Ira Hearshen; The Red Pony by Aaron Copland; and Symphonic Dance No.3 “Fiesta”by Clifton Williams.

For the balance of the year, we’ll have three additional concerts throughout the indoor season leading up to next summer:
  • Friday, December 5, 2014, 7:00pm – Annual Holiday Concert
  • Sunday, March 15, 2015, 3:30pm – Winter Concert
  • Sunday, May 3, 2015, 3:30pm – Spring Concert

We’re also excited to share with you that at the May 3, 2015 concert, we will perform Aaron Copland’s A Lincoln Portrait, narrated by WFMT radio personality Carl Grapentine.  This is certain to be a classic and you won’t want to miss it!   Mark your calendars now for these future concert dates.

I’ve also included a copy of our concert flyer which you can download here. If you know of a neighborhood business that allows you to post a flyer, please feel free to do so.

All indoor concerts take place at Cutting Hall, 150 East Wood Street in Palatine. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Children 12 and under are free, and tickets are available online at http://www.cuttinghall.org/palatineconcertband.htm or at the Cutting Hall Box Office. Additional information about the band can be found online at www.palatineconcertband.org, and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/palatineconcertband.

As always – we so appreciate your support and we thank you for your commitment and patronage.   Make your plans now to attend the November 9th concert, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

All the best,

July 2014 Update

We trust you had a great Independence Day celebration, and you’re now ready to enjoy the 2nd half of the summer!   The band completed two wonderful concerts on the North Shore in Wilmette and Evanston on July 3rd and 4th, each followed by a superb fireworks display.   We hope you were able to join us and appreciate the music and entertainment that helps us recognize this most important national holiday. Happy Birthday America!

Our next concert will be this coming Wednesday, July 9, at 8:00 pm in the Fred P Hall Amphitheater, 262 E Palatine Road in Palatine.  As always - these outdoor concerts are available at a great price – free!  As you may recall, we encountered just a little bit of mist towards the end of our June concert.  However, at this writing, the weather promises to be drier and warmer. So bring a friend, come on out and enjoy an evening with us.

We have a great line-up of hits planned for your listening enjoyment, including ---  Liberty Fanfare (Williams/Curnow),  Folk Song Suite (Vaughan Williams), March of the Belgian Paratroopers (Leemans), Hypnotic Fireflies (Balmages), and A Gershwin Tribute to Love (arr. Heisinger).  Additionally, we’ll reprise a few of the special patriotic numbers we played on the North Shore, just in case you missed them.

Our final concert of the summer will be Wednesday, July 30, at 8:00 pm at the Fred P Hall Amphitheater.  After that, we’ll take some time off before resuming rehearsals in September.

Looking forward, the Palatine Concert Band has announced its concert dates for the 2014-2015 season.  All indoor concerts take place at Cutting Hall, 150 E Wood Street in Palatine.

Sunday November 9, 2014 @3:30pm
Friday, December 5, 2014 @7:00pm
Sunday, March 15, 2015 @3:30pm

We hope you’ll be able to join us for one or both of our remaining concerts in the next few weeks.  It’s a great time to get outside, enjoy the great weather, and hear some live music.  We truly enjoy playing for you, and we hope you can take advantage of the opportunity.  Feel free to forward this email on to a friend and bring them out with you.

April 2014 Update

Dear Friend of the Palatine Concert Band,
Thank you to those of you who were able to attend our March concert. We hope you thoroughly enjoyed yourselves. We also trust that by the time you read this, we’ll be deep into Spring – and substantially warmer than we’ve been for the past 4-5 months!

Our Spring Concert and last concert of the indoor concert season is just around the corner – Sunday May 4, 2014 at 3:30pm in Cutting Hall, 150 E. Wood Street in Palatine. We have some wonderful news for you - in appreciation and thanks for your long-standing patronage and support, our Spring concert will be FREE! That’s right – FREE!! Would you help us get the word out? We’d love to have a full house! Tickets are not required.

Once again, we have a great line-up of compositions from around the globe to entertain you. Our selections will include: Suite of Old American Dances, Bennett; The Earle of Oxford’s Marche from William Byrd Suite, Jacob; March from Symphonic Metamorphosis, Hindemith; Mother Earth, Maslanka; Canzona, Mennin; and Spangled Heavens, Grantham.
The summer season is close as well. In June, we’ll begin our normal summer season with outdoor concerts on Wednesday June 11, July 9, and July 30 at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 E. Palatine Road, in Palatine – all start times are at 8:00pm. The summer season would not be complete without our journey to the North Shore – Wilmette (Wallace Bowl at Gillson Park) on Thursday July 3, and Evanston (Lagoon at Dawes Park) on Friday, July 4. We hope you will be able to join us for music under the stars, and fireworks in celebration of Independence Day. All of our outdoor concerts are free!
