April 2014 Update

Dear Friend of the Palatine Concert Band,
Thank you to those of you who were able to attend our March concert. We hope you thoroughly enjoyed yourselves. We also trust that by the time you read this, we’ll be deep into Spring – and substantially warmer than we’ve been for the past 4-5 months!

Our Spring Concert and last concert of the indoor concert season is just around the corner – Sunday May 4, 2014 at 3:30pm in Cutting Hall, 150 E. Wood Street in Palatine. We have some wonderful news for you - in appreciation and thanks for your long-standing patronage and support, our Spring concert will be FREE! That’s right – FREE!! Would you help us get the word out? We’d love to have a full house! Tickets are not required.

Once again, we have a great line-up of compositions from around the globe to entertain you. Our selections will include: Suite of Old American Dances, Bennett; The Earle of Oxford’s Marche from William Byrd Suite, Jacob; March from Symphonic Metamorphosis, Hindemith; Mother Earth, Maslanka; Canzona, Mennin; and Spangled Heavens, Grantham.
The summer season is close as well. In June, we’ll begin our normal summer season with outdoor concerts on Wednesday June 11, July 9, and July 30 at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 E. Palatine Road, in Palatine – all start times are at 8:00pm. The summer season would not be complete without our journey to the North Shore – Wilmette (Wallace Bowl at Gillson Park) on Thursday July 3, and Evanston (Lagoon at Dawes Park) on Friday, July 4. We hope you will be able to join us for music under the stars, and fireworks in celebration of Independence Day. All of our outdoor concerts are free!

Additional information about the band can be found online at www.palatineconcertband.org, and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/palatineconcertband

As always, thank you very much for your continued support and patronage. If it weren’t for you, we would not have a reason for being here. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday May 4th at 3:30pm in Cutting Hall. Be sure to bring your friends, and their friends too!

With Best Regards,

March 2014 Update

Dear Friend of the Palatine Concert Band,

Welcome to 2014 as we kick off the second half of our indoor concert season.  We hope you were able to join us for one or both of our first 2 concerts under the direction of newly appointed conductor, Dr. Frederick Lowe.  Thank you so much for making us a part of your musical experience – there’s nothing like live music to warm you on a cold winter afternoon.

Despite the extreme cold and snow that has defined this winter season, the band has been hard at work putting together a strong program to usher in the Spring.

Our next concert is just around the corner on Sunday March 16, 2014 at 3:30 pm in Cutting Hall, 150 East Wood Street in Palatine.  With a mix of modern and classical pieces, the band will excite and inspire you.  In tribute to the Olympics, the program will have a clear international flavor.   Our selections will include: Festive Overture, Shostakovich, arr. Hunsberger;  Divertimento for Band, Persichetti;  Italian in Algiers, Rossini arr. Cailliet; Variations on a Shaker Melody, Copland; Seis Manuel, Hanson; and Amazing Grace, Ticheli, as well as a few other surprises.

November 2013 Update

The summer is over, fall is in the air, and the Palatine Concert Band is hard at work, preparing for a new concert season.   We’ve got some very exciting news to share and we hope you’ll be pleased with our plans and the upcoming season.

Most importantly, we’re very excited to announce that Dr. Frederick (Rick) Lowe has been selected as the new band director for the Band.  Dr. Lowe is the currently director of ensembles at Loyola University Chicago, where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and basketball pep band, and also teaches a course introducing the art of music listening.

Dr. Lowe earned his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Upon leaving Lake Zurich, he earned his master and doctor of music degrees in conducting at Northwestern University, studying with primary teacher Dr. Mallory Thompson. While at Northwestern, Dr. Lowe guest conducted the Contemporary Music Ensemble, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
