At a Dixieland Jazz Funeral depicts a traditional Dixieland funeral in old New Orleans. A jazz combo and the band open with a slow, mournful processional based on the hymn, "Just A Closer Walk With Thee". The piece then transitions into an up-tempo celebration of life with "When The Saints Go Marching In".
Arranger Jared Spears is Professor of Music Emeritus at Arkansas State University. He was born in Chicago and educated at Northern Illinois University, the Cosmopolitan School of Music; and Northwestern University.
