Be Thou My Vision

Travis J. Cross

Be Thou My Vision The tune of this traditional hymn is the old Irish folk tune "Slane." The words are based on a Middle Irish poem often attributed to the sixth-century Irish Christian poet Dallán Forgaill. The best-known English version was translated by Eleanor Hull and published in 1912.

Travis J. Cross serves as chair of the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA, where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. Adopted from Korea as an infant, he was raised in Iowa. He earned degrees from St. Olaf College and Northwestern University. He taught in Edina, MN and Virginia Tech.
