Block M March refers to the familiar logo of the University of Michigan. Though written when the composer was only 22 years of age, this march features a mature style, with contrasting brass and woodwind figures, prominent use of syncopation, and a a driving tempo with a dramatic opening and conclusion.

Jerry Bilik (b.1933) is an American composer, arranger, songwriter, and director of stage productions. A musical virtuoso by the age of 13, he received bachelors and masters degrees in music from Michigan where he served for many years as chief arranger for the marching band. He has arranged for several television series, including Starsky and Hutch and Charlie's Angels , and he served as Vice President of Creative Development for Disney on Ice .
