Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring The tune comes from the tenth and final movement of Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata, Herz und MUnd und Tat und Leben, published in 1723. Johann Schop had composed the underlying chorale melody years earlier; Bach harmonized and orchestrated it.
