Prelude on Greensleeves

arr. James L. Hosay

A traditional English folk song from the 16th century, "What Child Is This?" combines the melody with lyrics hailing the newborn Christ, "whom angels greet with anthems sweet while shepherds watch are keeping". This arrangement takes the well-known melody through an extended introduction with fanfares and flourishes, then through two different settings in different modes, and finishes with a grand ending.

Arranger James L. Hosay joined the U. S. Army after high school as a trumpet player. He went on to graduate from the U.S. Armed Forces School of Music and became Staff Arranger for the United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own) in Washington, D.C. He is now retired and living in Norfolk, Virginia.
