Sea Songs

Ralph Vaughan Williams

Sea Songs is an arrangement in march form of three British sea-songs: "Princess Royal," "Admiral Benbow" and "Portsmouth." It was arranged for military band in 1923 as the second movement of English Folk Song Suite.

“Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872–1958) was encouraged from an early age to study music and learned the piano, violin, and viola. He studied composition in Berlin and Paris. National pride steeped his interest in the folk songs of England. He transcribed hundreds of folk songs later used as the basis for many of his compositions.
