Symphonic March on an English Hymn Tune was commissioned and premiered in 1984 by the Northshore Concert Band.
Claude T. Smith (1932-1987) was born in Missouri. He attended Central Methodist College and the University of Kansas and taught in the public schools. At Southwest Missouri State University he taught composition and theory and conducted the University Symphony Orchestra. He composed over 110 band works, 12 orchestra works and 15 choral works. Active as a clinician and guest conductor, he received many awards for his contributions to music education and composition.
