Three Movements for Symphonic Band

Don Owens

Three Movements for Symphonic Band was written in 2006 for York Community High School Symphonic Band and their conductor, Ronald Polancich. The first movement, “Frenzied,” is followed by the somewhat sad “Melancholic” at adagio tempo. The final movement is appropriately titled “Mysterious Marching Music.”

Composer Don Owens (b. 1942) graduated from North Texas State University and the University of Illinois. He taught band and jazz at Evanston Township High School. At Northwestern University, where he is professor emeritus, he directed the "Wildcat Marching Band," taught conducting and jazz studies and led the internationally-acclaimed Contemporary Music Ensemble. He is a clinician/conductor and adjudicator. He has authored several articles dealing with contemporary music and composition and has had many of his compositions published.
