This year (2009) marks the seventieth anniversary of this American classic musical/fantasy film. Words and music were composed by Harold Arlen and E. Y. “Yip” Harburg. Familiar songs in this suite include “We’re Off To See the Wizard”, “Ding, Dong the Witch Is Dead”, “If I Only Had a Brain” (featuring a tuba soli), “The Merry Old Land of Oz” and “Over the Rainbow” (which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song).
