Composer Gene Scheer is a contemporary American lyricist, librettist and songwriter. His work has been performed by many prominent artists including Renee Fleming (with Christoph Eschenbach), Patti LuPone, Denyce Graves, Sylvia McNair, Stephanie Blythe, Wynton Marsalis, Jennifer Larmore and Nathan Gunn. Norah Jones sang this piece in Ken Burns’ “The War”, his 2007 documentary about World War II.
