The Marriage of Figaro

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

The Marriage of Figaro was composed in 1786, and it was the first of Mozart's great operas. The combination of witty text by Da Ponte and Mozart's sparkling music was irresistible and the opera was an immediate success. The adventures of a resourceful barber are illustrated by some of the most delightful music Mozart ever wrote. The overture, which was originally written for a small chamber ensemble, is a pure gem of spontaneous melody and skillful design.
