Symphony No. 6 for Band

Vincent Persichetti, Op. 86

Symphony No. 6 For Band was composed in 1956, this symphony is an origi- nal work for band in four movements.

Vincent Persichetti (1915-1987) was born in Philadelphia. Even as a youth he worked as a professional musician. He studied at Combs College of Music, Curtis Institute and Philadelphia Conservatory of Music. He became a faculty member at Juilliard and editorial director at a music publisher. He was a virtuoso keyboard performer, scholar, author and an energetic teacher. His music is notable for polytonal combinations, contrapuntal density and incisive rhythm. He composed for nearly every musical medium, and particularly for wind band, with over 120 works published. He wrote nine symphonies and numerous ballet, chamber and choral compositions.
