Experience the eclectic sounds of the Palatine Concert Band as they perform a diverse and exciting program, including:

Shortcut Home by Dana Wilson A vibrant opener, "Shortcut Home" captures the listener with its exhilarating rhythms and jubilant energy. Drawing upon various jazz styles, the music proclaims and cascades, always driving towards the "home" of the final, C Major chord.

Australian Up-Country Tune by Percy Grainger (arr. Bainum) Adapted from Percy Grainger's original, this piece reflects the serene beauty of the Australian landscape. With lush harmonies and lyrical melodies, it evokes the wide-open spaces of the countryside.

Bali by Michael Colgrass "Bali" is a vivid homage to the traditional music of Bali. Through intricate rhythms and shimmering textures, the piece transports the audience to the vibrant culture and ceremonies of the Indonesian island.

Africa: Ceremony, Song, and Ritual by Robert W. Smith A symphonic portrait of African heritage, this work combines ceremonial drumming, haunting melodies, and powerful themes. It is a deeply evocative exploration of Western Africa's musical and cultural traditions.

Heart on Fire by Viet Cuong Heart on Fire was inspired by Mary Oliver's poem "Walking to Oak-Head Pond, and Thinking of the Ponds I Will Visit in the Next Days and Weeks", which evokes themes of hope in the face of hardship, and living every day to the fullest.

“Träumerei” from Kinderszenen by Robert Schumann (arr. Longfield) Robert Schumann’s "Träumerei" (Dreaming) is one of his most beloved piano miniatures, capturing the innocence and nostalgia of childhood.

Italian Girl in Algiers by Giocchino Rossini (arr. Cailliet) Gioachino Rossini’s comedic opera "The Italian Girl in Algiers" is brought to life in this vibrant overture, arranged by Lucien Cailliet.

Selections from My Neighbor Totoro by Joe Hisaishi (arr. Yo Goto) This suite captures the whimsy and charm of Joe Hisaishi’s score for the beloved Studio Ghibli animated fantasy film "My Neighbor Totoro." It will touch your heart with its abundant colorful musical images.
