Awayday
Adam Gorb
Awayday was commissioned in 1996 by the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. It is written as an homage to American musical theater, and the joy of “getting away from it all” on holiday. The composer writes “envisage George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Igor Stravinsky, and James Bond traveling together at a hundred miles per hour in an open-top sports car; I think you’ll get the idea.”
