Lift Off

Roger Zare

Lift Off is a celebration of human space exploration. It was written in 2005 when NASA was returning the Space Shuttle to flight. It was commissioned by the Sarasota Orchestra Symphony Association. Highly pointed rhythmic sections give way to richly harmonized melodic sections, with an almost constant rushing of sixteenth notes. It is a thrilling ride for both the performers and the audience. Roger Zare (b. 1985) is a Chinese-American composer and pianist based in Boone, North Carolina. He is known primarily for his orchestral and wind ensemble works, several of which have received significant recognition in the contemporary music community.
