Oklahoma!
Richard Rodgers, orchestrated by Robert Russell Bennett and adapted for Concert Band by R. Mark Rogers
Oklahoma! is the first collaboration between composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II and ran for an unprecedented 2212 performances. This medley was orchestrated by Robert Russell Bennett and later transcribed for band by R. Mark Rogers.
Set in farm country outside the town of Claremore, Indian Territory, in 1906, it tells the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and her courtship by two rival suitors, cowboy Curly McLain and the sinister and frightening farmhand Jud Fry. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancée, Ado Annie.
The medley includes Oklahoma, The Farmer And The Cowman, People will Say We're in Love, Out of My Dreams, Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin', Pore Jud is Daid, The Surrey with the Fringe on Top, Many a New Day, Kansas City, Farmer Dance, and I Cain't Say No.
