The Red Balloon – Anne McGinty

Inspired by a painting the composer once saw of an old man with a small child holding a red balloon, this descriptive piece is both evocative and moving. The music depicts the balloon floating in air.  Anne McGinty, a former professional classical flutist, is known throughout the world as the most prolific woman composer in the field of concert band literature, having written more than 225 pieces, with more than 50 of those commissioned by bands across the United States.
