program notes by composition > r > Fanfare for Rocky
Fanfare for Rocky was originally composed as the introduction for “Gonna Fly Now,” which is the music behind the famous training montage in the film Rocky. Conti uses that well-known theme as the material for a complete fanfare. He says that the fanfare, arranged for band in 2000 by Thomas Wyss, is meant to symbolize a hero going into battle, and should give the audience the feeling that their hero can conquer all.
