Stille Nacht

Stille Nacht (Silent Night) On Christmas Eve in 1818, the assistant pastor in a small village church in the Austrian Alps wanted a special service to honor his Lord. Church organist Franz X. Gruber (1787-1863) composed a tune to go with a poem the clergyman had written. “Stille Nacht” has been translated into over 200 languages and has become one of the most universal religious songs of Christmas.
Chip Davis (b. 1948) arranged this instrumental version. Davis graduated from the University of Michigan where he played in the marching band. He toured with the Norman Luboff Choir. He became famous under the name C.W. McCall for his country-oriented advertising jingles and popular CB song, “Convoy”. Founder of American Gramafone records, he produces very successful albums under the name of “Fresh Aire by Mannheim Steamroller”. He lives in Omaha, Nebraska.
