Selections from Wicked
Stephen Schwartz/arr. Jay Bocook
The musical Wicked, a prequel of sorts, tells the story of The Wicked Witch of the West (Elphaba) and Glinda the Good before the events of The Wizard of Oz (1939 film and 1900 book by L. Frank Baum). The highly successful show premiered on Broadway in 2003 and continues to play there and in other venues around the world. This medley includes “No One Mourns the Wicked,” “Dancing Through Life,” “No Good Deed,” “For Good,” and “Defying Gravity.”
Stephen Schwartz (b.1948) wrote the music and lyrics, adapting the book of the same name by Gregory Maquire. Other hits by Schwartz include the musicals Godspell and Pippin. He also wrote the lyrics for several films including Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Prince of Egypt, and Enchanted. Schwartz has won three Grammy Awards and three Academy Awards, and has been nominated for six Tony Awards.
